Customs Clearance

Customs Clearance is used by governments to monitor the types of goods being either imported into or exported from the country and is used to build up statistics and trade figures. It is also a way to collect taxes or duties on goods that enter the country. Goods are classified either by their use or what they are made of and allocated a number from the Internationally agreed Harmonised Commodity Description and Coding System.

The numbers are recognised around the world and they are used to determine Duty rates, Quotas and Preferential agreements between countries. It is important that goods are classified correctly as charges may be incurred if they have been wrongly declared and further Duty needs to be paid.

Goods can be imported or exported on a permanent or temporary basis and this will need to be declared when the customs entry is submitted.

Some shipments are quoted on a door to door service and include customs clearance, some door to door services and general air or sea shipments do not. It is always best to check what is included in the price you receive. Beat My Freight Quote partners will list what is included in your freight quote.
