High Cube Containers

High Cube Containers are designed to take light high volume cargo. The height of the container has been extended to 8 foot 10 inches or 2.7 metres instead of the standard container height of 7 foot 10 inches or 2.35 metres.

Advantages:

Shipping lines will often supply a high cube container at no extra cost on some routes, where the imports are higher than the exports, so that the container can be filled and returned. 

Disadvantages:

As they are specialist equipment they are not always available on all routes.
