Open Top Containers

Open Top Shipping Containers

Open Top Shipping Containers look similar to a standard 20 foot or 40 foot container, but instead of a solid roof they have removable supports and a waterproof tarpaulin. Open Tops are used when the cargo cannot be loaded through the doors and are usually used for shipping machinery. They can be used to transport cargo that is over height for a standard container or too heavy to be loaded through the end doors.

Advantages:

They can take cargo that is too high for standard containers.

Disadvantages:

Loading heavy equipment through the top of the container would usually involve a crane. Cranes are very expensive to hire.
