Hiab Vehicles

Hiab vehicles are rigid lorries with onboard lifting equipment. The lifting equipment can be used for lifting a shipping container from the lorry so it can be loaded at ground level. It can then be used to reload the container onto the vehicle to be taken to the port.

They are also used to load heavy cargo onto the lorry flatbed for transportation.

Customers sometimes expect a container to be delivered on a hiab, but this is not standard practice. Most containers remain on the vehicle while they are being loaded and unloaded, so if you want the container placed on the ground ask for delivery on a hiab.

They are commonly used when a customer has a shipper’s own container.
